The law protects the relationship between a client and psychotherapist (unlicensed or licensed), and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.
- Suspected child abuse, dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person(s), I must notify the police and inform the intended victim per law and ethics.
- If a client intends to harm himself or herself or themself (depending on one's preferred pronoun). Practitioners will complete due diligence within their realm and scope of practice to enlist cooperation and honest endorsement and understanding of the importance and value in safeguarding one's life and safety. It is noteworthy that additional measures may need to be explored and/or activated to ensure safety under certain circumstances.
