Creativity is unlimited, offering student’s precision as well as choreographic choices that utilize whole-body, expressive, and grounded movement. Nia is a "moving meditation" where movement and impeccable meaning empower each person in their Nia practice as well as in their authentic expression. Nia is gentle on the body and adaptable to every level of fitness, age, and body type.

From the world of martial arts, Nia is infused with the power, focus, and mindfulness of T'ai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, and Aikido. From the world of dance, Nia integrates craft, technique, and the expressiveness of Duncan dance, jazz, and contemporary dance forms. From the world of healing, Nia offers a multidimensional venue of wisdom, inner technology, and curative nurturing while enhancing exploration of personal authenticity, competence, and connection to self, others, and environment through Yoga, Alexander Technique, and the teachings of Moshe Feldenkrais. The aforementioned combined with the modern information about the natural world, the body, and the psyche create an effective and relevant system as we individually and collectively face the challenges of being human in the 21 st century.

The Nia Technique class format invites us to seek joy, awareness, and pleasure in our bodies, movements, and relationships. This reframes the paradigm of fitness shifting away from a human doing to the enjoyment of a more connected human being . It is currently practiced in 45 countries throughout the world and continues to spread across the globe.

"Movement, our first language, touches the centers of our being beyond the reach of vocabularies of reason or coercion. It communicates from the innermost soul that which cannot truly be expressed by words." -Unknown

The BodyTalk System

The BodyTalk System is an astonishing simple and effective holistic technique that allows the body's energy systems to be re-synchronized so they can operate as nature intended. Through exposure to the stresses of day-to-day life, these lines of communication can become compromised or disconnected, which then leads to a decline in wellbeing. Reconnecting these lines of communication enables the body's internal mechanisms to function at optimal levels to support the healing process. In this way, BodyTalk stimulates the body's innate ability to balance and heal itself on all levels.

The BodyTalk System is founded from a combination of advaitic philosophy, modern physics, advanced yoga, mathematics, the energy dynamics of acupuncture, and the clinical findings of applied kinesiology and Western allopathic medical expertise. This system facilitates communication with the inner technology (innate wisdom) of the body by employing neuromuscular biofeedback, similar to applied kinesiology. The BodyTalk System is a stand-alone system that can be seamlessly integrated into any wellbeing system, increasing its effectiveness and promoting faster healing and empowerment. BodyTalk's major assets are simplicity, safety, speed of results, and effectiveness. The basic premises underlying The BodyTalk System constitute a new paradigm for synchronizing and balancing the bodymind. The bodymind is a very complex ecosystem involving a delicate balance between physiological and biochemical functions, emotional and mental interactions, environmental influences, hereditary and genetic factors, and the need to synchronize all of these factors into a cohesive whole for balance, vitality, and optimal functioning.

BodyTalk is non-invasive, objective in application, and works effectively on humans and animals alike. In addition, BodyTalk has a built-in safety factor. If a BodyTalk technique is implemented incorrectly, there will be no result or change; it will not make things worse. BodyTalk is based on the principle that the body is capable of healing itself at all levels, as evidenced by the healing process that is automatically initiated when a person cuts a finger or twists an ankle. This automatic, self-guided healing process is part of the body's inborn intelligence, or the "innate wisdom" of the body as termed in The BodyTalk System. The innate wisdom guides the overall functioning of the bodymind complex, synchronizes all the activities as well as seeks to maintain balance, also known as homeostasis, within the bodymind complex.

STRESS EFFECTS OUR HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Stress has a profound effect on the bodymind and its ability to heal and function at an optimal level. When an individual experiences ongoing stress, it can overload the energetic circuits of the bodymind, causing them to fail or be severely compromised. This is just like plugging too many appliances into an outlet and tripping a circuit breaker in your home. If you have ever blown a fuse then you know that you must go reset it. Often times the body cannot reset these blown circuits on its own resulting in a less than ideal state of functioning. This ultimately leads to degeneration, illness, and pain - a sign that the bodymind is simply falling behind in the healing process. Stress has a strong correlation with illness and dis-ease in many emotional, psychological, and somatic forms.

A NEW PERSPECTIVE

One of the major areas addressed by the BodyTalk System is the realm of personal and spiritual growth. BodyTalk is a very powerful tool in the field of personal development balancing the bodymind while addressing specific beliefs, attitudes, and emotions. Practitioners and clients alike can experience changes in the way they relate to others as well as the relationships they have with friends, family, and themselves. Many individuals find new perspectivess or improvements within their life or work and have reported an increase in the overall wellness and genuine life satisfaction they experience on a daily basis. "If you want to awaken all of humanity, then awaken all of yourself, if you want to eliminate the suffering in the world then eliminate all that is dark and negative in yourself. Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self-transformation." -Lao Tzu
